Seal Your Record Legal Clinic
CSJ organized a “Seal Your Record” legal clinic in downtown New Bedford this past weekend. Prof. Margaret Drew of Umass/D Law School supervised three law students, as they advised and assisted local community members with the Petition to Seal form or the CORI Personal Request form. Across Massachusetts there are over 500,000 people who are eligible to seal their record. Many don’t know that they can even seal their record, or don’t know how to go about it. Every day men and women who served their time and have additionally served their waiting period of 7 years(felony), 3 years (misdemeaner) are judged yet again when it comes to obtaining housing and trying to get a job if their record has not been sealed.
